Jim Morrison seemed to have played a pretty sizeable role in the songwriting process of "Cruel Summer" by Seattle's Hippy Tantrum, a strange, almost spooky psychedelic ditty with a throwback vibe. This song conjures up the acid days of old Europe, using tambourine, organ, electric guitar, and some rough, plodding drums. The lead singer sounds a little spun out, crooning slightly disturbing metaphors into the microphone in doubled vocals. The song ends with some cool, simple riffs played backwards. All in all, it's a fun and unique song, and worth a couple listens.

"Cruel Summer" would be an excellent theme song for

a retro nightmare
