We Were Fire
Heartfelt, beautiful vocals delivered with an almost drunken southern sway make Honey Blue's "Oklahoma Girl" an absolute treat to listen to. The high caliber of the musicality shines from the very first chord, and you'll be tapping your toes by the second. As expected, the song is a flawless homage to a young flame from rural Oklahoma-- and listening to the song, you can almost picture the fireflies, twinkling across the yard of some old back porch with chipped white paint. Nostalgic, to say the least (but hell, I grew up in a small town myself. Maybe I'm a bit biased).
The band released “Oklahoma Girl†in February of last year, stating that the song was a celebration of their roots and serving as a first glance at an EP to come. “It feels great,†said singer Tucker McIntire, “we have been waiting a long time, years. It is kind of awesome to see something that you constantly work and mediate on daily finally become a reality.â€
LYRICS:
blood red is the sun that i’m seeing now
tall grass shade cools my head down
i picked you out a flower for my side
Oklahoma girl, you stole my eyes
wondering where has she gone now?
i’m coming back down from where you left me
we were both young like the king of spring
you took me like the wind but let me breathe
i lost myself in everything but these moments with you
summer sun sets in the grass alone
thunder in my chest when you get close
looking back down on every moment with you
we were fire
fireflies in the stall, cool breeze at night
whisky on the back porch got us feeling right
your dance was a song and your stare was mine
Oklahoma girl, you got my time
