Trying to Turn Back Time
This song is a bare bones ballad of nothing more than acoustic fingerpicking (or strumming) and Trace King's introspective lyrics, peering into some of the past mistakes made in his relationship, and aching for his lover to return home. King has a wonderful voice, with just a smidgen of huskiness to it. "I was too blind to see what we had/ and now I'm on my knees, begging you to come back." This song belongs on the front porch of a double wide trailer, parked in the middle of the Illionois woods, with empty glass bottles strewn around a guitar case sitting in the dirt. Some very nice harmonies beef up the song's chorus (sung either by King, apparently, or a couple buddies who happened to be nearby).
