The Epic Aftermath of Love
There's a pretty strong retro quality to the sound of "Callin Your Name," reminiscent of Cyndi Lauper or other 80s pop sensations (all the way from the reverb-heavy lyrics and the drum samples to the RnB bass synth lines). If you are someone with heavy 80s nostalgia, though, you'll love singer Missy's passionate and dynamic songwriting, with frequent tempo changes and a powerful melody, written in the painful aftermath of a breakup. The song is sweepingly epic while also having moments of cool beauty. Missy's voice is gorgeous, and her lyrics are as interesting as RnB ever tends to get. I would enjoy hearing a small upgrade on production/recording, and then would be the first in line to buy a CD.
