Cleanly-mixed psychedelic dub and downtempo beats form a solid skeleton for a song that otherwise plays like poetic singer/songwriting. This makes for a unique combination that does not fit firmly in either genre (EDM or S/S), which, I think, is to its advantage. ELB11 sings of memories of the lost love of youth, and her incredible affections for her current lover. This lover is who "There You Were" is written for/to, someone who dropped into her lap quite unexpectedly. "There you were...a pleasant surprise."
