Pretty post-rock, locked up in the basement.

"THE THING,” by BEATEN BORED, is an unusual creation with an almost genre-defying sound; elements of post-rock and experimental ambience combine with ominous, reverberant clangs and clunks, and are topped with sparse, distorted vocals. It's hard to tell what the singer is singing about, but one might assume some sort of weird poetics regarding alienation or paranoia (partly because of the song, partly because of the song title). The percussive clunks bring to mind listening to something dragging chains around down in the locked-up basement. The song is less than two minutes long, which sets it apart from the often > 6 minute post-rock songs we here coming from Godspeed or Explosions in the Sky. Short, sweet, and weird. I'm a fan.

"The Thing" would be an excellent theme song for

Some sort of RC drug trip.

I would add "The Thing" to a playlist called

The most impressive instrumental/vocal performance in this recording is
