With an edgy name like "Ankorage," I expected to be bombarded with some heavy metal angst rockers, and was pleasantly surprised to instead hear a throw-back doo-wop act straight from 1963. A few years ago, I used to attend Twist n Shout Night every Saturday at a dive bar in Asheville, NC, where the DJ spun old vinyl records and a couple hundred tightly packed hipsters got down and dirty. "I Need You" makes me miss those days, when I was listening to a lot of this nostalgic era of American music (my favorite, though also somewhat of an anachronism, is Wizzard's song "See My Baby Jive"). Happy to see Minneapolis might be experiencing a doo-wop revolution, and I would love to check these guys out a show, if I ever had the chance.
