Lazy Detroit Hip-Hop
"They don't wanna see us ownin' businesses/ They don't wanna see us go legit wit it" echoes the hook of "Legit," a slow, laid-back track from rapper Deala, featuring lots of 808 loops and autotuning. The hook is catchy, as is the beat, and Deala has a nice, easy flow that would sound good bumped out of a slow-moving cadillac. Anything coming out of Detroit right now interests me, since it is America's newest ghost town, and will inevitably foster at least a few significant artistic movements in the next five to ten years-- if history has anything to say about it. The song has a defiant and cocky tone to it that feels good to listen to; as if the 99% is finally coming into its power. The lyrics reference a wide slew of smart topics, including Obama, the 90s, and black political history.
