The name Tornado Rose perfectly suits the sound created by this Kansas band--a sexy, upbeat combination of rockabilly, indie, and folk. The singer's voice shines with a crystalline power and clarity, backed by a fast drum kit and silky-smooth blues guitar. "80 Acres" is filled with delicious lyrics pulling from old Americana and Anglo-Celtic ballads, with mockingbirds, cottonwoods, the Devil, and a deep connection to land (here, the 80 acres). The song speaks of weariness and determination in equal measure; revealing some of the true spirit of the American midwest.

"80 Acres" would be an excellent theme song for

driving back home

I would add "80 Acres" to a playlist called

new Appalachia

"80 Acres" is reminiscent of well-known artists such as

Be Good Tanyas, Allison Krauss
