As much as I love this song, I fear I have no business writing about it, surprised to discover the artist came from Indonesia after thinking I heard a distinctly Mexican or Latin influence in this beautiful song. With no knowledge of Indonesian musical traditions, I can't say for sure if those Flamenco-sounding poly-rhythms and guitar licks are indeed adopted from the West, or if it is a style frequent in Southeast Asian music as well. Nevertheless, the Islamic Riverrain clearly knows how to build a rich and textured sound, supporting a lovely female melody and harmony. The song's title, in Indonesian, translates roughly to "Love and Hate because of God," an interesting arrangement of words that I, again, lack the proper education to speak on.
