Introspection in Hip-Hop

A review of "KOH Freestyle" by N.S

“KOH Freestyle” is an interesting, personal and introverted hiphop track continuing along a trajectory set forward by LL Cool J in 1987 with “I Need Love.” A futurebass, reverberant wash of sound quietly drifts across the background, as minimal 808 trap beats support N.S.’s melancholic rhymes. His rapping is not aggressive or proud, but rather, feels refreshingly humble. He questions materialism, machismo, and the hip hop culture he is embedded in.

I would add "KOH Freestyle" to a playlist called

Futurerap

"KOH Freestyle" is reminiscent of well-known artists such as

Aesop Rock

When listening to "KOH Freestyle" I am transported to

A hazy, late-night alone.
