Homage to Brother Michael
A casual listen of "Power of Music" might first make listeners think Randy Hyden is singing a religious song (possibly about the archangel Michael), but soon we are clued in that this song is, in fact, an homage to Michael Jackson, filled with references to his songs and using vocal snippets of songs like "I'll Be There" and "Man in the Mirror." This song caught be my surprise, with its over-the-top gospel stylizations which honestly, sound nothing like any Michael Jackson song I've ever heard...which makes "Power of Music" all the more interesting. The song adds to the almost divine reverence with which the world treated MJ, an appreciation I've never fully embraced but always, at least, respected in its enormity.
