"Back to Cali" is a lyrically-deft rap track, surreally moving through the memories of hip-hop's history. It starts with a dedication to both 2Pac and Biggie, followed by the opening line "I had a dream I was B-I-G, all I heard was "Who shot ya?" right before I D-I-E." The Plug moves rapidly through an onslaught of names and memories of the last twenty years, not declaring any allegiance to either coast, but drawing on inspiration from both scenes and empires to tell its poetic story. Interestingly enough, The Plug manages to sound at times like both of them in turn, with a strong resemblance also to Jay-Z. The production is tight and beautiful, a perfect backdrop for the strange song.

"Back to Cali" is reminiscent of well-known artists such as

Jay-Z
