He Meant What He Said
"Said What I Meant" seems to echo the language of Dr. Seuss (intentionally, I think) in a sort of nonsense song that offers a few understated insights into relationship. Like the early Dylan years, or more recently, the Tallest Man on Earth, Albany's Eye Dharma sings of love in a rough-and-tumble, casual way, armored in his nonchalance and masculinity. The delicate care he puts into the lyrics, though, suggest otherwise. Eye Dharma offers us the perfect amount of information in "Said What I Meant," snippets of his romantic exchanges that say much while giving away little.
She said "Say what you think," I think that I said
Something about beauty and the (????) in bed
But I said what I meant, but I meant it too much
Left my heart out of reach and money you can still look at
I'm over my mind, out of my head
and I said what I meant and I meant what I said (x2)
Sometimes words bite now while others just sting
And while most fall away with the rains in spring
I close a chapter while I open a novel
And I'm here, ain't I, darling, now don't make me grovel.
I'm over my mind, out of my head
and I said what I meant and I meant what I said (x2)
My mood keeps changing, this day to that
Some days it's all lumpy, some days I'm so flat
My back's broken girl, carrying all these bags
Let's take it in, baby, let's not break the glass.
I'm over my mind, out of my head
and I said what I meant and I meant what I said (x2)
