Happy in Squalor
"Good Day" is an interesting mix of Top 40 musical effects over lo-fi instrumentation, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The song is infectiously happy, a joyful Millenial anthem about being in a good mood despite the fact that life is trying its best to run you down (a romantic break-up, financial trouble, apartment falling to shit). The main instrument is a simple guitar strummed almost like a ukelele, with a poppy drum and clap track behind it. Even if the song is simple in nature, I can't help but feel deep gratitude for artist Lowry--who decided to stop complaining, pull out his guitar, and write a song appreciating life no matter how shitty it might be. In an age of machismo hip hop and aggressive pop, this song is a perfectly refreshing way to start your day off right.
