Grateful Folk Revival
“Stardust and Shadows†reminds me so much of the revivalist folk songs my family used to sing out of the iconic songbook “Rise Up Singing,†that I had to look up the lyrics to see if it was a cover. It’s not (though the tune is very similar to John Denver's "For Baby," which is probably what I was thinking of). Gary Blanchard sings a nice little acoustic song about noticing wonder (the stardust and the shadows) in an age of technology, logic, and fast-paced, busy lives. His voice is soft and worn, like old leather, and is recorded nicely over his guitar. This would be a great song to listen to around a campfire in autumn.
Life is like a flowing stream
The current swiftly carries us unguided
We go wherever it may lead
and accept whatever is provided
We are so busy living life
We can forget to see
Stardust and shadows
The magic of the budding of the trees
The beauty in the color of a flower
The wonder of the structure in the woods
That could be an old, enchanted tower.
We miss a world of fantasy
When we fail to see
Stardust and shadows.
