A Need for Speed
"My Needs" is a wicked and full-force rock anthem, with a powerhouse singer and dynamite electric guitar alternating back and forth as leads. Power is shared equally, and they both have plenty of opportunities to shine. The funky, hard drums and lightning-quick bass hold down their part just as skillfully. This is a style I consider to be contemporary, and while I certainly wouldn't go so far as to call it post-rock (a genre appropriately defined by groups like Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed), there's something in the wild, fast, chaotic sounds of bands like Final Hand, Mars Volta, or Cage the Elephant that feels like a modern twist on classic rock, with no nostalgia or regurgitation of old, familiar forms.
