A lovely, hazy, experimental ballad.
Beautiful instrumentation, poetic lyrics, and textured vocals are among many reasons that “Sometimes I Can’t Feel My Heart†is an incredible song. The skipping, light, contemplative male lyrics might remind listeners of Elliot Smith, the Stranglers, or even a certain era of the Beatles. A dynamic waltz-like series of instruments accompanies it all in 3/4 time...changing, shifting, and growing in complexity over five minutes that never lose momentum. “I am the breath on your neck as you're coming around/ Fading in and out of my arms" reads one surreal line.
Listen to these lyrics, and then listen to them again. Sometimes artists are able to write the kind of poetry that expands (rather than narrows) in meaning with every new hearing, and Black Barrett's "Sometimes I Can't Feel My Heart" is just such a song.
