Cue up “The Saving Kind” and you might just think that you have accidentally turned on Metallica's “Enter Sandman” until you get a big heaping dose of front woman Hayley Jane's rich and sultry voice. There's something soothing about Jane's voice on top of carefully crafted instrumentals of guitar, bass and drums. It is even sort of magical with the way the lyrics tell a story that just transports you into a not quite dark world. The tone of “The Saving Kind” seems to hop and skip between various genres of rock, folk, country and even pop but under that there are also elements of theater that make for a nice infusion. With crisp lyrics, welcoming acoustics and a sound that you're not going to hear on the radio, Hayley and the Primates really do have a song worth saving for your music archives.
