Sometimes it's easy to forget that there are sub genres with genres especially when it comes to rock music. When most people hear the word rock they tend to think, incorrectly, of heavy and black metal opposed to alternative rock or even rock pop. Fake* which is classified here on SongLadder as rock is more of the variety that groups like The All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday and Yellowcard fall under. “The Man I'm Not” isn't a song to a significant other as it is more of a song for Fake* to lament about the person he is now and how it's a distressing revelation for not only himself but also his mother. The lyrics aren't overly complicated as he sticks tot the traditional composition of song structure. What probably sticks out most in the track his the backing instrumental which makes sure to hit the dramatic notes in time with Fake*'s vocal delivery.
