“Weekend Anthem” sounds like one of those songs that plays midway through an old 80s film that is about teenagers trying to find themselves while refusing to accept conformity. It has a juvenile charm to it and brings forth imagery of climbing out your bedroom window while your parents are asleep and slipping on your leather jacket to hang out with friends at that one bar no one is supposed to know about. If you had to nail the “Weekend Anthem” to a particular genre then it would be in the garage rock category. It has a sound that is reminiscent to bands like The Gories, The Dirtbombs and The Slits. The rebellious atmosphere that Chris Nelson permeates in this track will certainly be a turn on for those who enjoyed the sounds of when garage and punk rock came out on to the scene.
