A lot of the country on SongLadder is arguably more of what is being played on CMT, the various national country radio stations and other avenues so it's nice to have the addition of “Nathan's Song”. Unfortunately “Nathan's Song” is far from a happy, go lucky song. Yes there is the nostalgia that often comes with classic country but if anything “Nathan's Song” is quite a sad song as it recounts and honors the life of United States Army Sergeant First Class Nathan Ross Chapman who was the first soldier to be killed in combat in the war in Iraq. Time Rhodes, a southern gospel singer pays homage with a beautifully crafted song and a voice that is not only strong but also pure. While such a topic might not be everyone's cup of tea especially if they have lost someone dear to them, those who enjoy classic country and want to take a minute out of their day to honor someone will want to give this one a listen.
